St. Ignatius School

The teachers and administration at St. Ignatius School take our responsibility for academic excellence and faith formation very seriously. As middle years educators, we respect that all students come to us with differing levels of ability and believe in the importance of:

  • Motivating them to fully develop their unique talents and skills;

  • Encouraging ownership for their learning by promoting self-assessment;

  • Providing opportunities for them to contribute as members of their learning community;

  • Meeting their learning needs through differentiation;

  • Facilitating their independence through strategic teaching and learning opportunities;

  • Setting high standards in order to foster within them a life-long love of learning and active citizenship.

The English Language Arts curriculum is designed as a complex process of inquiry, collaboration and discovery that is facilitated by language through involvement in reading, writing, responding, representing and viewing. Students will be given opportunities to become proficient in all of the language arts. Their learning opportunities will promote reflective thinking so progress can be planned, monitored, and assessed.

The St. Ignatius Math Program fosters and nurtures students' passion, aptitude and enjoyment of mathematics through discussion, investigation and practical means. The objectives of the math program are:

  • Enrichment through advanced mathematical content and activities beyond typical activities;

  • Curriculum challenging students to think critically and creatively;

  • Problem solving skills that will develop students’ logical reasoning, and mathematical;

  • Communication through engaging and complex mathematical problems;

  • Confidence in their critical thinking and mathematical thinking skills.

In addition to the core subject areas, students expand their knowledge and experience through shops and language programs. They’re also encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities to broaden their skills and learning community outside the classroom.

Melissa Smook
Parent

"The R1 Hockey Academy has provided an incredible environment for my son's growth, both academically and athletically. With the support of dedicated teachers, he has successfully transitioned from a French Immersion curriculum to an English curriculum, embraced a challenging workload, and gained confidence in his abilities. Off the ice, the top-tier training at Testify Performance has motivated him to push himself physically, while the on-ice program has significantly improved his skating, puck handling, and shooting. This well-rounded program fosters development in all aspects, shaping not just skilled hockey players but well-rounded individuals."

Travis Laing
Parent

"As a parent I wanted to maximize my son's hockey potential while maintaining a high standard of education. The R1 Hockey Academy has given that to us and then some. From the smaller class sizes, to the facilities and staff on and off the ice, our son has found a comfortable place to land in a highly competitive environment. The Testify Performance gym and staff make it fun and challenging as the boys work on building healthy, athletic bodies for the long hockey life that we envision. We are thankful to have made the decision to try the R1 Hockey Academy, which has been a successful building block for our son's future path to the next level of hockey."
